A new project to understand the effects of Santa Ana winds on Santa Catalina Island and the Southern California Bight is being formulated. With the acronym SAWS (Santa Ana Wind Study), this will be the inaugural program of the Society celebrating its incorporation.
SAWS will feature a comprehensive view of the Bight, gathering together data from a variety of sources to investigate the effects of Santa Ana winds on upwellings, mixing, waves, currents, and biological productivity. The initial study of the program's feasibility can be found via the links below.
