GUIDELINES FOR POTENTIAL CMS MAGAZINE AUTHORS

TOPIC:

Some specific marine-related research of the author's choosing and conducted by the author, that she/he describes appropriately for an audience such as the CMS board, a mostly non-technical group though with phenomenological familiarity. The research must have some relation to the Southern California Bight, being either performed there or having results that are important for this region. The article should include the importance of the issues, results of the study and interesting approaches to overcoming obstacles encountered during the project. Desirable but not required would be information on possible programs that the CMS could undertake or participate in.

LENGTH: 1000-2000 WORDS

Potential authors who are not experienced or comfortable writing can work with CMS editors to produce a comfortable format or style, e.g., an interview-type format where the author can answer written or oral questions.

AUTHOR'S PICTURE

Author is required to provide a portrait to accompany article. Other images that pertain to the article are highly desired. They can be of animals (including microscopic specimens), field work including personnel working, laboratory equipment, boats, etc

COPYRIGHT

The CMS has copyright to the article and any publication wishing to reprint it must ask permission from the CMS. Author has personal use of the article.

EDITING

The article will be edited by CMS for grammar, clarity, length and perhaps style. Author and CMS have to jointly agree on the published version.

FEE

The CMS will pay authors a nominal fee upon publication of articles it commissions. Voluntary submissions that are published will not be compensated. We politely suggest that the author can donate some portion of the fee back to the Society as a charity donation. The fee is negotiable but will be paid only if the article is published.
